Synopsis
Walter feels guilt over the suicide death of his brother, an amputee veteran of the Vietnam War. This has caused him to retreat into a life where routine protects him from the outside world. Images from the Iraq War have made him recoil further into a private existence. His wife Peg’s frustration over this withdrawal boils over as she confronts Walter with a threat of leaving him. Peg’s planting of frozen green beans on the front lawn and a tea party with teddy bears and a moth eaten rabbit reveal their needs and regrets. Desperate phone calls to their daughter Jessie throughout the play reveal that Jessie has found a prospective partner in her life and will be bringing this person to meet them before the evening ends. The play concludes with the disturbing revelation that Jessie’s choice of a partner is an amputee veteran of the Iraq war.The Cast List
